MAKERTHON

¿What is MAKERTHON?
The purpose of our Makerthon is to immerse students in a dynamic Problem Solving and Solution Sprint—an intensive, hands-on event where you are all going to work collaboratively to address real-world challenges.
SCHEDULE
Kickoff & Brainstorming
We launched the Makerthon with an inspiring introduction to the importance of mangroves, their role in the ecosystem, and the threats they currently face. Students had the opportunity to talk with guest experts, and build a deeper understanding of the challenge ahead. They ended the day by brainstorming possible solutions thinking creatively about how they might contribute to mangrove conservation.
Sketching & Feedback Field Trip
Our second day focused on turning ideas into visuals. Students participated in a sketching workshop, where they learned how to illustrate their prototype ideas and think through design. In the feedbacking workshop, they practiced how to give and receive constructive feedback—a key part of the design process. With guidance, they shared their early concepts and learned how to improve through thoughtful critique.
Prototyping & Storytelling
On Day 3, students rolled up their sleeves and got handson in the prototyping workshop. Using a mix of materials, they began building the first versions of their solutions— models, tools, campaigns, or even interactive experiences. They also attended a storytelling workshop, where they explored how to craft a compelling narrative around their project: What problem are they solving? Why does it matter? And how does their solution make a difference?
Expert Feedback & Refinement
With their first prototypes built, teams presented their work to a group of external experts and mentors. These professionals offered valuable, real-world insights that challenged students to think critically and revise their designs thoughtfully. The rest of the day was focused on refinement—making changes based on the feedback, improving how the prototypes worked or looked, and making sure their story aligned with their solution.
Final Touches, Presentations & Celebration
he final day was filled with excitement and purpose. Teams finalized their prototypes, polished their presentations, and practiced their storytelling one last time. Then came the big moment: presenting their projects to an audience of classmates, mentors, and guests. Every team showcased not only a unique solution but also their learning journey—highlighting teamwork, creativity, and care for the environment. We closed the day with a heartfelt award ceremony, celebrating the incredible effort, imagination, and growth shown by every student. It was a beautiful moment of shared pride and inspiration.
